Simple. Just like a bounty hunter. There is so much money($?) placed on the bull. If you ride him, You get that money. Mesquite used to have a Bounty Bull sponsored by Dodge back in the day. Usually you win thousands for riding the bull plus your winnings.

The PBR did this with the Mossy Oak Shootout a few years ago. I think it's a really cool idea and I miss it. It's gone by the wayside like the bull fights at PRCA shows. It's pretty unfortunate.

I agree, it was really cool and a good way to end the show.

The bounty on Neil Gay's dodge Durnago got so big, they had to quit putting him in the draw because all the hands would call in and enter, then draw out if they didn't draw him. They started drawing him out of the guys who attended. I think it was Joe Wimberly(McKennons dad) who rode Dodge Dakota back in the mid 90s for a 30,000 plus bounty at Mesquite.
Was it Ross Coleman who rode Hollywood in the Mossy Oak Shootout for $90,000 a few years back?
The Dodge bounty went up $500 each time the bull bucked off his rider. The MO deal went up $5000 each time I think.

Another great M.O. Shootout win for the cowboy was Owen Washburn riding Tony Sharp's Hammer, then did it the next night to prove it wasn't a fluke!
