Hear alot about White Sport Coats offspring and how successfull his offspring are less so about his sire CP47.What else did his sire produce (brothers) on same or close to the same level as WSC as a producer??? Not intended to get off topic just curious as I have noted in other breeding programs that one brother would produce better offspring than the others or possibly came from the cow side?? Jumping back to his sire WSC got any brothers produced anything of note??

If you want a futurity calf, Houdini just keeps kicking out winners!!!!

Now everyone talks WSC this and that... Im sure yall can come up with some good information to help new breeders learn about this bull:D

Of all the WSC sons out there, which one stands out the most?

Pastor Chet, you are so right about Houdini, and most will say he is White Sports Coat's best son.

to me, I think Panhandle Slim sticks out the most. He was a Bull of the Year, which means he was a great bucker, plus he has been a good producer, his daughters better than sons IMO but all around i think he is the best son. my favorite is rooster though

The thing that sticks out in my mind about WSC is that his sons and daughters are producers. How many top bulls go back to WSC in either a sire or a their dam?

161 White Sports Coat...
Well there nothing to really say about this bull other than he probably a producte of one of if not THE longest and MOST PROVEN/successful bloodlines ever assembled!

It seems as if most of his sons and daughters are some of the best producers in the bull world.

Houdini, Rooster, and Panhandle Slim are probably the most notable producing sons of his with some up and coming future super sires, including our 161 son, ^7R 28 Livewire (sire to Ropers Broke Leg 13th in the world in the ABBI in 2005 and sire to Bo Davis' Cool Cat), and 770 Double Shot of Shippys.

147 Spitfire was a CP47 son. 147 was the sire of 50 Hammertime that was a multiple time NFR bull. 259 Katydid was a White Sports Coat son that went to the NFR and PBR finals. 259 was the sire of 950 Silver Select that has been to 5 PBR finals.

I think Richard Rule rode 161 in the short round of a BRO in the early 90's for 90.

161 was raised by Ronnie Roach as most of you know. He was born in 1988. Ronnie bred with him and then sold him to Brad Brettin of ND and Brad hauled him to some rodeos up here. He was hauled to some early PBRs and some BRO's.
Here is a video of him in Mitchell SD in 1996 (When he was 8)http://www.shippyrodeobulls.com/161wscoat96mtchl.MPG
He then was sent back to Ronnie so he could breed with him and Spook was sent to Brad for Brad to haul. Brad then got 161 back up north but then Ronnie wanted to buy him, so Brad sold him back to him. Brad had collected 161 and that is where all the semen originated from. Roach's never collected him due to the fact they think he froze his testicicles some when he was up north the second time and the semen was never good enough to collect after that. Ronnie bred cows to him and then he died 1998. They think he got a hold of a bad weed.
**On another note, Spook was SDRA Bucking Bull of the Year in 1995 when Brad hauled him up here**
We have been blessed enough to own three 161 sons and one maternal brother to him.

The picture of WSC at the start of this thread is Richard Rule at Casper Wyo Bull Riders Only, You would have to ask Richard how many points he was, I forget, I was the arena director that night and recognize my bucking chutes in the background! Richard won the event that night and I believe was the only guy to ride one in the short round, I thought WSC was a nice spinner, the rest of the short round that night looked like this,Playboy,Gunslinger,Dog Face, Bear Swallia,Tahanta, several others of Bailey and Big Bend I can't remember! And remember all of the toughs of the day were there , no PBR yet!

First, Ms. Shippy thank you so much for the video of WSC, I am sure I have seen him in the past, but it was great that you shared it with many of the new people to the business.

Second, I watched it several times, and then watched several other tapes we had around here. It is amazing the similar moves of sons and grandsons and even great grandsons.

You can't argue with results! With calves like Houdini, Rooster, Panhandle Slim and many others he is definitely one of the greatest in our industry. I sure like some of the females out of him that I have seen too! Just wish I could afford em!:)

I know Brad gave us a pix of him and it use to be on Roachs site.......it could of been taken 95-96 or the first time he had him (earlier). I will try to see if Randy knows where it is.

I think the cows that WSC was bred to made him the producer he was. Ronnie had [ THE] best set of cows in the world. They would produce buckers if the neighbors bull got in the pasture. The best bull to come of the Roach ranch was Wildthang, he was out of Frick #45.

good to have you back Dale!!:D

Shawn Murray
05-02-2008, 01:11 AM
I agree Dale. If Ronnie would have put a Naccarato bull over his herd every once in a while I firmly believe we would not only talk about how consistent they were we would also talk about all the rank ones they raised. I think he needed to carry on the plummer line just every once in a while outcross. But heck who am I. I only hope when I pass on I will have raised a tenth of good ones he did. I just think the good ones aren't good enough anymore.
Are still feeling young again Dale?

I feel dangerous, I haven't felt this good in 10 years. I'm back to normal if there is such a thing, heck I even got my computer going again. I've got a bullriding this saturday in Nocona Tx. I'm looking forward to it.

Agree on all the great offspring from 161....I'm using a son of CP-47 to bred with this year...If the sire to L319 is CP-47 that make him a paternal brother to White Sports Coat correct..just asking can't remember the paternal and maternal thing but I think maternal is same mother and paternal is same sire...

In the early 90's Randy Jokela produced a bullriding in MN called Guts N Glory. Randy put up a bunch of money and drew in Tuff, Jim S., Clint B., Norman C., many others and a young gun name Michael Gaffney. I was still in high school at the time and got a chance to ride with/against these guys. Needless to say I was kind of Awe Struck! Randy had Brettin, Berger, Eckroth, and eventually Baily bring bulls to these events. I witnessed two phoenominal rides first was Jim Sharp on Eckroths Creme Puff (#300, Travis many have to correct me on his number), that bull was rank, but Sharp was ranker. He was 90+ when it wasn't common. The next ride was Gaffney on WSC, and up to that point I hadn't seen him ridden or even heard of him getting rode. But Gaffney made one hell of a ride on him that night. I think one of the things that made WSC so great at bucking was how deceptive he was. He looked like just a good spinner, but he was strong, and he would shift in that spin. I've seen a lot of guys try and set a trap for him and end up on the back of their head. He is a great producer, but was also a great bucker in my opinion.

Razor was 93.
the pic with the yellow chutes is the ride.

I have the tape of that event, I don't know if it will play anymore, I should take it and have someone make a DVD of it.

I remember that like it was yesterday!

I have other trips of 161, 147 Spitfire, and CP91 Cowboy Cut too.

those were the good ole days Derrick

what is really cool is that Cody Weinberger has been on 161, Spook, and Playboy!

87 on Playboy at a college rodeo in KS.
I don't know what the score was when he rode Spook at the NDRA Finals that year.

I wouldn't think a son of Houdini would be slow to mature. His son's have been the one's to beat since futurities were started.
