I just spoke with a friend of the family and Jim did pass on. This is truly the loss of the best rodeo cowboy ever. My thoughts go out to them.

Jim and Marvin were and are great freinds of mine and it is truly sad when a cowboy and a freind like Jim dies. My prayers and heart go out to Jim's wife and Marvin. This is very sad and will be very different not seeing him around.

A big loss for the sport of rodeo. One of the greatest ambassadors the sport of rodeo has ever known.

I had the pleasure of drinking a few beers with Mr. Shoulders when I broke down in Henrietta for a week one time. One of the few people that ever made me go "WOW" when I met them.

The other was Freckles Brown.

Men like that are few and far between.

I met Jim a few times and really enjoyed each. I remember when the PBR gave Jim and Harry Thompkins the Ring of Honor award. We were in the press room and Jim and Harry were compairing story's about the old days of rodeo. Telling each other about the great bulls of the time and joking each other about getting bucked off. You could see just how much they respected each other. I sure wish I had recorded all those tails. I did take a great photo of Jim and Ty Murray together at the PBR finals last year.

I competed with them (no contest) in Houston I think, in 1955 and 56. I was just a kid and too bashful to even speak to them.

Shoulders and Tompkins were my heros and I guess they still are.

It is an and of an era for many of us... Jim Shoulders was one of few childhood heroes that lived up to their reputation.

The world is a lesser place without him.

God bless his family
