For those of you that ride, or have ridden, when a bull acts up in the chutes and starts bucking before the gate is opened, should you rerap your rope? I see some guys do it and some don't, but it seems that most of the time that when a guy doesn't he gets bucked off. Is that a mental thing or an actual physical thing with the rope?
Thanks,
Arthur

Sometimes a bull will be leaning or squating in there and you pull your rope up, wrap it, then he gets to bucking around and next thing you know he's standing square and your bullrope isn't in the right spot. Then other times he'll get to jumping around before you get a grip on your rope and you'll lose some of the tightness of it. Bulls also let out air when they move around like that and your rope can get loose. Any number of things can happen. Every situation is different.

it depends. if i already have my wrap and they just jump around a little bit, then its alright. i mean if your rope wont stay tight in the chute how's it gonna stay tight in the arena. but if they rear up in there or i dont have my wrap and it loosens it up or slips then i will pull him again.:pop:

It depends on the money and how bad I need out... Because I promise the jumping around will get your motor running and can wear you out... But you still need to get things as right as you can. I do believe that some people over do this though. Heck when I was in College I promise you, if you were dicking around in the chute the latch got tripped. I can promise this made you learn to deal with alot more... But still at a bullriding you need to make things right... But I also learn this from one of the Best at being a cowboy, His name is Richard Nevels and those who know him I think will agree....

I don't really think it is a mental thing, anyone who has rode bulls much has dealt with bulls that are bad in the chute. More than anythig it is after they do act up if your rope still feels good or not and sometimes if they act up long enough and you pull a tight rope your hand gets tired because there is quit a bit of pressure on it. How bout Mike Lee on Vertical Limit the other day when he accidentally got rolled forward, he didn't repull! Talk about being a Cowboy!!

Have all the new cowboys forgot about the quite "slide and Ride" method.
Seems like years ago, everyone knew how to mount a bad actor, they'd pull and wrap while suspending themselves on the slats, look to make sure the flank and gatemen we ready, then nod as they slid there weight forward and up on the rope. By the time the bull realized he'd been had and started his fit, the gate was open and he was outside.
Back then, my chute procedure was the things legends are made of, it was the riding the bull for all 8 seconds that gave me fits!

HELL KEITH MOST DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT REALLY MEANS
Use to get on a lot of green bulls learned how to slide and ride usually only got one chance to get out helped me quite a bit getting on bigger bulls that would squat in the chute could get down and get out on them before they would go to squatting because they were use to other riders getting on them and taking their time getting out

This is where the term "they are only going to get worse" comes into play. The longer you mess around in the chute, the worse bulls get, especially young bulls. I heat up my rope before i get down on them, this helps cut time. As soon as im down on him my buddy is already pulling my rope. I try to get in and out as fast as possible. I also see alot of guys jumping on their ropes and calling for the gate. When you do this, it makes young bulls ball up in he front of the chute. The thing that works for me is to call for them when im sitting back aways. Then i slide up as they are leaving. Just my opinion
