first off, i have a bull that has had a hoof abcess. the vet drained it and gave him plenty of antibiotics. he seems to be better one day and worse the next. my question is, has anyone else had this happen and did your bulls end up bucking again?

second i have a calf that is goin to have to be bottle fed when it is born. if its a bull calf will if affect his bucking down the road?

thanks to anyone who can help!

You should get him to some one that can Xray the hoof, We had a bull that had more than one Abcess, one was treeted then same thing, It was not getting any better found another Abcess treeted it then found the third one by that time the bone was in bad shape.

Hoof diseases are the worse kind to heal they take forever,,i had a cow with a infected hoof i tried everything finally i went back to the old standby LA200 gave her about 20CC and that worked better then anything.Your just going to have to be patient ..

What my vet did was drill out the infected area and fill it with acrylic, then wrap it good and keep it dry for a week then check it again. That worked great for me, havent had a prob since.

Travis, Take him to MU in Columbia! They will get him fixed up right! I have taken quite a few bulls up there for hoof abcests! They always dig all the soft tissue out and put a block on his other toe to keep the weight off the bad one so it will heal!

Regarding your question about bottle feeding, if I'm not mistaken, Red Rock of Growney's was bottle fed as a calf and he turned out pretty good!! A.P.

Best cow I ever had got killed by lightning a couple of years ago right after she calved. My wife bottle fed her calf and now the calf is 10 times better than her mother. Feed her a little extra(I know milk replacer is expensive) each day and she should be fine.
