Just thought I would start a new thread on the subject since most people are probably bringing stuff home or into the corrals for the winter.

Maybe it would be helpful to share some of your thoughts on what you feed for rations (in addition to hay) for your stuff over the winter.

I use barley and minerals but it is not mixed up special or anything and I am considering some other options that other may have??

(Sorry, I have no goofy icons to add)---HA!

Russell I can only suspect that it gets just as cold up there if not colder. In the dead of winter down here I feed 25 pounds of brohm/alfafla mix plus there usual grain. I also throw a tub of he25 from crystalyx in with them just for some extra protein. The only thing is that you really have to make sure you exercise them on a routine basis so they don't chub up too much on you. It works well for me though. I do take their grain down a bit, especially if they aren't being hauled much, just because that crystalyx has a lot of protein and their feet get long when they're on snow for three or four months.
