We are trying to schedule our 2nd event for the $$$ MONEY DERBY $$$,
this one will have a 2 yr. old futurity, as well as the 3/4yr. old event again.
My question is: What does everyone think of this being on the 4th of July?
Some have told us that it would not be good because of the holiday and others have told us that it would be great, because people have more traveling time off work. Please help with any input you might have on this.
We are currently trying to schedule dates & locations for 4 more events.
This would be a total of 4 derbies and 3 futurities, plus a finals. In doing this we would take the top 40 derby bulls and the top 30 futurity bulls back for our finals.
Thanks for any advise you can give on the weekend of the 4th!!

Don't like the date. There are lots of challengers and bullridings around and on the 4th but thats my opinion. We had a good time at the last one..Would like to make the others.....Thanks

Well it seems I have read on hear that there is alot of people with bulls and no rodeos. Sounds to me like if a guy had a bull that is good enough to win he would work this event. I would think 10k would pay more bills than out money... I would have it on the day you want. " If you build it,They will come"
nice qoute i like it and i also agree with you

thomas think it could be good for some and not good for others.. I do think if you have an event with it being summer, you should plan one and give folks more notice, like 2 months in advance, helps them plan their schedules , especially with it being summer and so much it going on.. think you would have better turn out, jmo

Thanks for all the input from everyone so far, can definately see both sides.
Checked on ABBI, PBR & NBBA sites as to what was going on thru the month of July. The weekend of the 19th is the BFT Tulsa Classic. Won't try to compete with that cause we plan on attending it. The weekend of the 11th is an NBBA at Hamilton. Later in the month, not so much, but because of the heat, we become more limited on location.
Summerain, agree with you on the notice part of it, but here's the deal on that. We announced our first one and openned the books in March, had it May 23rd. It was our first event and we were really scared about participation. Turned out that towards the end we had to turn people away since we were only taking 25 entries. So now we already have people on a waiting list (mailing list) for when we schedule another one. Not to mention, that approx. 11 people from the first have said they are in for the next.
In order to schedule 3 more of these and a finals date & location, there gonna have to be about a month & 1/2 apart with a finals sometime in Oct. or Nov. but that won't end up conflicting with the PBR Finals, NFR & CBR. Cuz face it, even we know those ARE where everybody wants to be toward the end of the year!!
So we still want everyones input, thanks in advance on any help you can give & I hope that we just end up with dates that, for the most part, can fit the majorities schedules.

my opinion for whats it worth is that the 4th is not a good weeknd, i know there are alot of stuff going on and in order to get your bullriders i think you would have to add a pot load of money. as far as the contractors go it would be good for some and bad for some. ive always tried to stay away from doing july 4th deals

Some guys (myself included) may have prior comittments that they can't back out of due to the 4th being such a busy time for most. That said, you have to do it on a date that will work for you & it seems likely to me that even with doing it on the 4th you could get the bull entries you need. The difficult part will be getting the bull riders. Even if it's a bring your own rider deal it will be pretty hard for a lot of guys to get a top notch bull rider to come because those guys (a lot of them anyway) are going to be entering everything they can over the 4th to make one last push up the standings.

$1000.00 per bull (derby & futurity) $100.00 per rider (rider can only enter 1 time each.)
Currently working on exact date & location of the 2nd event. Each event that we do will be in a different location.
Thanks for the interest,
