I have a 2 1/2 month old heifer that seems to be bleeding from her tail area. Her vagina seems swolen and her tail is sticking out a few inches off her. I just put a 2 year old bull in to clean up some cows. Could he have mounted this calf and actually penetrated and done damage? Has anyone heard of this before. My AI Tech said he had not hear of anything at that age. He said if she was, that she needed some antibiotics. Any help would be appreciated... Bobby

Bobby, never heard of that young before, but I suppose anything is possible. Im looking online to see if I can find anything remotely related to this, if I find something I post it for you.
could the heifer got injured by another cow or calf in the pasture with her... one of those freak accidents maybe?
Oh I call you later .. about what we discussed last night

only thing I found was related to older heifers and tramatic penatration from the bull, but the merck vet manual did say that on occassions, this type of injury could result from horned animals rough playing
they recommend:
Prophylactic antibiotic treatment is wise because clostridial or other organisms may proliferate in the damaged tissue and cause tetanus
If she means anything to you I would get a vet out there, she's only 2 1/2 months old - can't be good whatever it is.

Bo, is right, if she has coccidiosis she won't last long without treatment. If blood is a dark red, and it is also in the feces. She may have coccidiosis.
