View Full Version : Women's bull riding?????
So I was sitting here giving Dusty a hard time and he told me that there is women's bull riding. I tried googling it and I can only find articles about it.
From what I've seen they only have to stay on for 6 seconds and can hold on with 2 hands? Why wouldn't you want to do it like everyone else does?
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone was involved in this or knows someone who is. I would like to learn more about it :)

Well, lots of the better riders do ride with one hand... Bulls are not as rank in the women's circuit. There are a couple of those gals that are pretty handy..... In 1978 I was hired to help make a Pepsi commercial with female bull riders. Also I had one that use to come to my practice pen. She looked better on bulls that most men, but she just didnt have the stamina. HS ps I didnt mean looks tho she was attractive, I meant style.
Well my extent of bullriding has been sitting on the Silver Bullet Bull @ a rodeo to take a picture (I'm assuming he was a mascot - i was young) and riding the **** out of a mechanical bull when I was drunk, out with a friend. I did better than the guys hahaha
I joke with Dusty about probably whoopin him if I ever did try it. That's kind of how this came about...

I believe they were/are two of the very best! Up here on the semi pro circuit, they have no problem letting women enter roughstock events. Heck, I remember when Kaila Mussell cracked out in the broncs, she started up here.
Also, A distant cousin of mine got her start riding bulls up here against the men,I helped her get down on her first bulls.

Jan rode bucking horses better than bulls. Alot of girls would travel to Garden Valley and learn from her. She had 3 or 4 daughters than could kick a hole in a bull. Also her granddaughters from Tonya. They rode in a men circuit on the east coast for a while.

Kayla still rides saddle broncs in the PRCA against the guys all the time.
WOW so PRCA allows women to ride then? That was kind of the reason why I asked, because I didn't figure they would.

Oh shes funny. I guess I will show her the bascis, since I rode before. Have to show her everything then she takes it over. Shes tough though I might have to work so she can enter rodeos. HAHAHAHA
Actually if I got any good, it would be like just another job for ME so YOU can keep taking over the bank account... hmmmmm???? hahahaha

I was up in Cody a couple of years ago and there was a gal bull rider. She wasn’t half bad. This past Saturday night at the Canon City, CO. PRCA Rodeo I saw Kaila Mussell-Dent ride a saddle bronc. She drew a big bucker and I think she went about 6-7 seconds before she came off. She looked good-a strong solid rider. She is the only female to hold a PRCA card. I think she took a couple years off due to injuries, but moved over to Hayden, CO and is riding again.
By the way, Darcy Vold was the stock contractor and I had the Bounty Bulls for both nights. Seems there are more women getting involved with rough stock.

Yeah, Kaila was always a pretty solid rider. Never knew the meaning of quit either, at least when she was up here. Seen her on one big ol' bronc up here and her saddle slid forward about the second jump. She just kept spurring, even when, every jump, there was more and more daylight between the horse and the saddle. She got drilled at about 7, but man was she trying the whole way.
