If your just starting out and want quality cattle at a reasonable price, I'd contact Pete Wiley at Fort Scott, Kansas. Pete always has quality heifers for sale. Two bulls that bucked in the rank pen at this years NFR were out of cows that shows only WILEY BREEDING. Pete got his program start with Vickie Long breeding.

You might try Denny Thorsell, he's in Ohio, or the Williams, they're in Maryland and both have good programs.

You guys have brought up some well respected cow herds, but I'd be willing to wager Jim Crowther has raised as many bucking bulls as anyone with a smaller cow herd.
Any takers??

Thanks Steve. We have been blessed to raise alot of good bulls and we do have some real nice cows and Hfrs. forsale that will start calving in March. :)
God Bless,
The Shippys
David Bailey's Super Cool is out of a 21 Pole daughter. Another good bull out of a Pole Cat daughter is 20 Pole Cat II. I bred a heifer I bought from the Baileys to Pole Cat II and she had a heifer calf. I bred her back to 95 Grey Cat which was a good 21 Pole Cat son. I'm expecting that calf in mid-March.

I would wait and try to find a cow thats bred back around then.
AI dont always go so great if you are spendin a little more for a cow thats bred ( imo i think its better to pay cause ai dont always go as planned).

40 - 50hd of plummer bred cows. He ranches a lot of beef, but only a small rodeo cow herd.
In his lines, I am fond of the 22 and 64 females- some really like the 96 stuff as well.

Pat Packard of Medicine Lodge KS has some really nice blood in his herd. Talked to him a few weeks ago and he was right on the price too.

I may be biased, but my opinion is that percentage wise, Polecat cows are as good or better than anything out there with the possible exception of Crowthers. All of the lines I've seen mentioned are great though. It's really a case of what direction you want to go and which girl you think is the prettiest...

According to my "almost complete" database of producing females. Whitewater Skoal daughters have by far, produced more Grade I Buckers, Competition and Pro Level combined, than any other maternal grand sire. This is from a list of 300 confirmed producers, which are registered with the ABBI.

How and where can we access this "almost complete" database? I'm anxious to see it and get a copy..

Karen: I am anxious to make it available to the public as well, but it will not be released until the software is properly set up and finalization of where the information will be made available (website). This is being worked out, as well as being updated weekly from competition results going on now. Digging up information from years past is the time consuming aspect of it.

We are breeding this yr to a dogface top and a whitewater bottom over302 velets wrangler and nelson bottom side what a cross time will tell
Naccarato, Crowthers, Roach, Page, Bailey sure have an impressive group that keeps coming back year after year !! Another on that seems to stay under the radar are the Katich's!! Seems every large breeding program has a Red Mulie female. They are great mothers, have the milk, frame and aditude to raise what most of us are looking for! Steve and Sorrel seem to come at us every year with a new group of GOOD BULLS !!! Breed them to the Small, Medium, or the LARGE ROPE BUSTERS !!! RKO

There is currently two short round bulls that are out of those lines in Spit Fire and Firebird. In the last three years, Spit Fire and Dr. Proctor were in the running for BBOY. I would say they should be near the TOP.

I am pretty proud of the Crowther 64 blood line I got via Flynt Toews. Neither bull came off my place, but the very limited 64 breeding out there produced last years BBOTY in the PBR and another bull that sits on top of the probullstats ranks this year.
I've told a couple guys if they don't buy the 64 lines they stand a good chance of getting beat by them.
JMO
Marlin, how did that Red Mulie cross with your Crowther breeding do ? We're thinking of doing a little 64 blood over some of these Red's?
Add Major Pain, Banana Basin aka Yellow Jacket II, Apache Leap's coming back. All have been short round bulls. Not many programs can boast of producing as many Bull's of the year or Resv. Bulls of the year--- Dog Face, Rapid Fire , Unforgiven, Tahonta , Dr. Proctor. Not bad for a back water producer !! RKO
