I really liked that bull. He came from Christensen Bros from Eugene and Roseburg Oregon. They were the largest stock contractors for a long time. They have a great book about them called The CB cowboys.

I was told that Christensen bros bought him for $10,000 in the early 80's. I believe Bob Barby raised him?? Son of the legendary Oscar. He was the 1983 PRCA Bucking bull of the year. And Later Alex Naccarato got him to put on his cows and then bought him from them. Alex bred him to Oscar daughters, his own half sisters. Oscar's Velvet is most likely the best producing sire in this whole bull bizz. Look at all the breeding programs he has made an impact on. The list of bulls with his bloodlines that have made it big is very very long. I am very grateful to have an own daughter of 34 Oscars Velvet(SCC12-6 Ms. Oscars Time Machine). She is an AI calf out of a proven producing #301 Sports Machine cow. 12-6 is about to calve any day to 525 Shane, I have been checking her everyday. I still have straws of 34 Oscars Velvet that I bought from Alex years ago, that I plan on using soon.

I had a son of OV, out of Jeff Tosh's #301 Sports machine cow born at our place this year. Completely different calf than I thought he would be. He is big and stout, lots of hip, not at all what I expected. I am totally impressed. I agree with Casey, he sure shows up in the papers of alot of great cattle.

If not for Alex and O.V. and Charlie Plummer there wouldn't be any breeding programs. Oscar & O.V. were both great bulls & both were great producers. There's not many you can say that about. And I have a straw of O.V. that I plan on useing soon, just haven't decided on what cow to use.

I think alot of the Oscar Bulls and Oscars Velvet bulls carry alot of body weight. We have a bull by a 1/2 brother to Oscar Velvet and He stout. We also have a double bred Oscars Velvet and he will be the same Stout with alot of hip. Some people say that the Oscar bulls mature late and not to expect much of them until they are three or older. I dont have enough of them to know if thats true but I know they are easy keepers and usually easy to be around. Ours are good to be around in general.
This is a 2 year old that has some Oscar Velvet back on the top
and out of an Oscar Velvet Granddaughter. Lots of Hip and Stout

So, I got curious and looked him up in the registry. He is the sire to Whitewater, Knothead, Nitro, A22, Alex, and Predator. Who has he grandsired? I'm curious, too, to know producing females. It seems like a lot of times that we only get bulls on here, but I would really like to know some producing cows he has sired/grandsired.
Thanks,
Arthur

Reindeer and A13 Trick or Treat are out of Oscar's Velvet daughters
When you really start to look at what has come from the Oscar Lines , it kinda makes you sit and think a minute. Then you take a breath and look at Alex's breeding , even though they might not all be 100% on paper, you Know Oscar Velvet has played a major role in all those produced by him!!
Marcia and I really feel blessed to have our bull Oscar's Ace. It's shows more every day I'm around this animal , that Mr. Alex knows his program , because little things he's said about the animals, their traits and personalities shows through.
Marcia and I would really like to thank the people that have supported Ace and hope he carries on the tradition!
Burrell Ashford , Bill Summers , Cody Lostrom, L J Jenkins ,Joe Waltz, Ted Keeling ,Norm Caja, Robert and Carolyn Mock, Chad Woolsey, David Love , Dan Shrimplin, Brad and Lana McKee. And a big thanks to Gary Isbell for breeding the bull !!!
Here's hoping that he does half what his heritage has done, Oscar Velvet out of a Wolfman daughter ; double Oscar. Thanks RKO

We're focusing in on Oscar's Velvet bloodlines. We're breeding our #524 Hard Candy (he goes back to OV) daughters like this one: www.bloydbuckingbulls.com/blacksugar.wmv
http://www.bloydbuckingbulls.com/black%20sugarto #111 Winchester's Image a Grandson of OV on the top and a grandson of Kish's Winchester on the bottom. We can't wait for the double bred OV babies to hit the ground in 2009! Especially #87 Black Sugar's babies.

So does anyone find that the Oscar/Oscars Velvet calves are a little later maturing or finding a bucking pattern (style). I was told once that with these lines that if they dont really buck or turn back at first not to worry about it. That some of the Oscar/Oscar Velvet bulls dont really start getting rank untill they are closer to 4.
I know there was a discussion awhile back about bulls that didnt really start to buck until they were older but I dont remeber it being specified to any specific breeding. What has everyone else experienced with these lines?

I know a guy in Sanger that used alot of AN cattle in his program and he said that it takes them about 10-15 trips till they find a pattern that suits them

Sidney I talked to Alex Naccarato about the OV and Oscar Velvet Bloodlines and he should know best since he used OV for so long. He told me that with the OV bloodlines, they dont start even maturing and developing until they are 3 yrs old and older. Thats why normally they dont make good futurity calves.. they need time to grow, fill out and develop and thats usually when they are 3 or older. Most these calves from the OV bloodline can go on as older bulls and be some rank buckers.. you have to be patient with them and give them time. Thats what Ross and I are doing with Oscars Ace... let him sew is oats and grow up.:)
